The special forest vegetation reserve Lože is located within the Spačva forest (total area of 100 hectares), about 7.5 km south of the town of Otok, in the Vukovar-Srijem County.
It is a reserve of old oak forest with impressive specimens of pedunculate oak. In addition to pedunculate oak, there are other tree sepcies, such as the European hornbeam (Carpinus betulus), the field maple (Acer campestre), the narrow-leafed ash (Fraxinus angustifolia), the Tatar maple (Acer tataricum), the field elm (Ulmus minor), etc.
The reserve is primarily intended for scientific research and education of pupils and students. It has a permanent surface within the UNESCO program - MAB (man and biosphere). There is also an educational trail with educational panels showing the species characteristic of the Spačva forests. This special reserve is located in the heart of the Spačva forest near the medieval archeological site Virgrad and the educational trail "Virovi".
Through the project "Doors of the Spačva Basin", the construction of the biological education center "Virovi" has begun, which will connect all the natural resources and historical features of the entire Spačva Basin.
The Lože Reserve is of special importance due to its uniqueness and rarity. It is a habitat of endangered wild taxa, and has special scientific significance and purpose, which can be: floristic, mycological, forest and other vegetation, zoological (ornithological, ichthyological, etc.), geological, paleontological, hydrogeological, hydrological, etc.
